Storage and Preparation Guide

To maintain the quality of your Cordyceps fruiting bodies, follow these simple storage tips.

  • Long-Term Storage: For best results, vacuum-seal the mushrooms before freezing. They can be stored frozen almost indefinitely.
  • Preparation: There is no need to thaw frozen Cordyceps. You can use them directly in teas, broths, or as directed.

Recommended Toolkit for Cordyceps Preparation*

Digital Electric Tea Kettle – Precise Temperature Control: Allows you to maintain the optimal water temperature for an extended period, which is crucial for a proper extraction. Estimated Cost – $50-$60

Digital Scale – Accurate Dosing: Essential for measuring your Cordyceps dose in grams or milligrams, ensuring consistency each day. Estimated Cost –
~$10

Grinder for the mushrooms – Maximizes Extraction: A fine, uniform grind significantly increases the mushroom's surface area, allowing for better release of active compounds. Estimated Cost – $15-$20

Containers – Easy Preparation: Useful for pre-mixing the ground Cordyceps before adding it to the simmering water, preventing clumps and ensuring even distribution. Estimated Cost– $8

Vacuum sealer for mason jars –  Preserves Freshness: Removes air to protect the Cordyceps from degradation, preserving their potency and freshness, especially when freezing for long-term storage. Estimated Cost– $33

Note: The prices listed are estimates and may vary. The tools do not need to be expensive, brand-name models to be effective.

Cordyceps militaris Tea Brewing Method

Part 1: The Participant-Developed Brewing Process

The brewing method we recommend was developed by Paul Morrison (Participant #2), who carefully documented his process for achieving consistent results. His step-by-step guide is the foundation for this project.

Part 2: How to Track Your Progress

To contribute valuable data, we ask that you keep a simple daily log. This information is crucial for understanding your experience and correlating it with outcomes.

Please make a note of the following each day:

  • Dosage: The amount of Cordyceps consumed.
  • Timing: The date and time of day you took it.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Brief notes on your diet and exercise.
  • Well-being: A simple record of how you felt (e.g., energy levels, symptoms, overall mood).

Part 3: What Happens to Your Data?

Your daily logs are the raw material for discovery. Here's how we use them:

  1. Data Compilation: You will share your logs with our project coordinator, Nancy Kula.
  2. Report Generation: Nancy uses your data to create a comprehensive Long-Form Progress Report and four additional PDF reports. For details go to this link.
  3. Shared for Insight: These personalized PDF reports are then shared with you. You can use them for:
    • Personal Insight: To see your own trends and progress over time.
    • Doctor Consultations: To share detailed, organized information with your healthcare team.
    • Scientific Research: To contribute to the de-identified data set shared with the researchers listed on our  Science Driven page.

Self-Monitoring Blood Testing*

Essential Blood Monitoring: A Requirement for Participation

To ensure both your safety and the integrity of the data we collect, continuous blood monitoring is a mandatory component of this project.

1. Testing Requirements

For your data to be considered valid, you must have:

  • A baseline blood test performed shortly before you begin taking Cordyceps.
  • Regular, ongoing blood tests performed while you are taking Cordyceps.

2. Recommended Testing Frequency

Most participants test every 2 to 4 weeks. We strongly advise you to discuss the optimal testing schedule with your healthcare provider.

3. How to Get Tested

You can arrange testing through your doctor or use a self-directed service. Many participants have used the following walk-in lab facilities:

Important Safety and Dosing Information

Your health and safety are our top priorities. Please review the following guidelines carefully.

⚠️ Critical Safety Warning: Do Not Stop Prescribed Medications

Never stop or alter the dosage of any medication prescribed by your doctor without their direct guidance. Cordyceps is a supplement, not a replacement for your medical treatment.

Potential Supplement Interactions

The following supplements may negatively interact with Cordyceps or affect blood platelet levels, which can impact both your safety and your results. Please discuss their use with your doctor:  Omega-3, Echinacea, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginkgo, St. John's Wort, Milk Thistle, & Turmeric/Curcumin.

Guidance on Dosing

If your blood counts return to and stabilize within normal ranges, continuing a full "treatment dose" of Cordyceps may be unnecessary. Consult with your healthcare provider about potentially stopping or finding a lower "maintenance dose."

Outside of the US

Recommended International Cordyceps Suppliers

For participants outside the United States, sourcing high-quality Cordyceps can be challenging. This guide provides a list of international suppliers that other project participants have used successfully.

A Note on Our Recommendations

To maintain complete objectivity, we want to be transparent about our process:

  • We are an independent entity with no financial affiliations or sponsorships.
  • None of the links provided are affiliate links, and we receive no commission from any purchases.
  • These recommendations are based solely on the positive outcomes reported by fellow participants.

Key Product Requirement: Use Fruiting Bodies

Participant data consistently shows that whole or ground fruiting bodies are significantly more effective than pre-made capsules, tinctures, or powders. Always seek to purchase the raw fruiting body.

Suppliers By Region

– Europe –

A participant reported achieving near-normal blood counts using this product.  West Coast Herbs, (Ireland)

– Australia –

Multiple participants have reported positive results with this supplier's product. (Superfoods, now Mycro.)

You must contact the vendor directly to request Cordyceps militaris fruiting bodies, as they may not be listed on the site.
